Trac© FAQ’s #2

When saving the Trac file with my data entries, why does the following message appear?

“Cannot save the file ‘TracApple04.xls’. The file exists and is marked Read-Only. Save the file with another file name or to another location.” when using TracApple04.

OR

“Cannot save the file ‘TracGrape04.xls’. The file exists and is marked Read-Only. Save the file with another file name or to another location.” when using TracGrape04.

The message “TracApple04.xls is read only” or “TracGrape04.xls is read only” will appear when saving the file for the first time after opening the program file. The “read only” feature is a property of the Trac program file because it originates from a read only CD. This property protects the blank file from being accidentally overwritten or erased. Follow the instructions in the “read only” box and use Save As to save your file with a different name to a convenient location or folder on your computer. Do not save your farm’s Trac record file with the program file name (ex. TracApple04.xls). Instead save the file containing your data with a new name (ex. TracBrookside04.xls).
