Ability of a Rye Cover Crop to Suppress Yellow Nutsedge 1997
Project Leader : Jane Mt. Pleasant
Determine whether (with a field study) and how (with field and greenhouse measurements) rye cover crops effectively suppress yellow nutsedge in corn in the spring following cover crop establishment.
A rye cover crop was established in field corn plots where observations had shown heavy infestation of yellow nutsedge. Treatments are whole rye plants, rye roots, rye tops, a chemically inert mulch, and no mulch. Nutsedge emergence will be compared in these treatments through the processing of soil samples. Data from the greenhouse portion of this project will be available later in 1998.
