Combining Reduced Herbicide Rates and Cultivation for Effective Weed Control in Corn 1997
Project Leader:Jane Mt. Pleasant
Demonstrate the efficacy and convenience of combining cultivation with herbicides for effective weed control in corn.
Weed numbers in sample quadrants were lowest in broadcast herbicide-treated plots, equivalent or higher in plots treated with banded herbicide and a single cultivation, and higher in cultivated plots. Yields were not as high in band-treated plots as in broadcast-treated plots at two of the three sites, due at least in part to herbicide failure and heavy weed pressure. More work needs to be done to make banding and cultivation a viable alternative on a farm scale.
