NYS IPM 2000
Excellence-in-IPM Award Winners:
Bob and Tim Martens manage more than 1,000 acres of vegetable cropland in Port Byron, NY. Four generations of Martens have worked on the same land. Using a variety of IPM techniques, they have managed to reduce their pesticide use by as much as 50%. The Martens often participate in Cornell University field trials in their search for ever more efficient ways of farming. Their environmentally friendly practices have led the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to allow them to grow potatoes within the Montezuma Wildlife Management Area.
