NYS IPM 2000
Excellence-in-IPM Award Winners:
Brian Eshenaurs programs at Cornell Cooperative Extension (Monroe County) help homeowners and professional alike to understand and adopt IPM practices in lawn care. For example, 80% of lawns in Monroe County dont have a grub problem, and those that do have them only in certain areas. IPM education can help people cut back on pesticides, or replace them with biological and cultural control methods.
Eshenaur also organizes workshops for school and municipal staff who care for athletic fields. Reducing chemicals isnt only good for the environment and for kidsit saves schools money. Since Eshaneur began these workshops in 1997, three dozen school, colleges, and municipalities have begun using IPM principles to maintain play fields and grounds.
